U.S. Open – Let the Shopping Begin

Posted by Christine Monteith On June - 11 - 2010

Just had to drop by and pick up a Father’s Day gift for my golf addicted Dad who I’m sure will be glued to the TV next weekend. While I’ll be holding homes open in Pacific Grove wondering if any of these golf fans would like to own a little piece of golf heaven.

Between the Rain…Rainbows

Posted by Christine Monteith On March - 3 - 2010

Rainbow

Rainbow

It’s been a long, wet winter. “We need the rain” is a refrain that is repeated from friend to friend.

In between the driving rain, the brilliant sunshine and the hail, this rainbow glowed for a brief moment.

Nothing like NYC in February

Posted by Christine Monteith On February - 12 - 2010

Fortunately, I went last week and missed all the snow. Had lots of time to meet with friends, share stories, eat, drink. Next time, I’ll shop and museum.

Pebble Beach Dressage

Pebble Beach Dressage

2nd day of the annual Pebble Beach Dressage Classic. So far, it has been a low-key show, not too many competitors arriving. Have to see the numbers tomorrow. Of my friends that are showing, they have found the judging tough but fair.

PG “Shoefiti”

Shoefiti

Shoefiti

Pacific Groveis a quiet, little town that sits on a small outcrop of rock along the central coast of California. It exists in the shadows of its more famous neighbors, Carmel and Pebble Beach. You don’t see much Shoefiti around here. Yesterday, my broker took this photo of her new listing. There are many theories on the motivation for “shoefiti.” There is an elementary and middle school nearby, my conclusion is some student needs a new pair of shoes.

The AT&T is here

Posted by Christine Monteith On February - 12 - 2009

Green on 7, Spyglass

Green on 7, Spyglass

The banks of audience seating are set up, the yards and yards of white plastic canvas are assembled into huge tents, miles of fencing and nylon rope are strung along the roads and the day is here.
I was cruising back from the barn this afternoon and caught these players finishing up on the 7th hole at Spyglass.
A good friend who has lived through the AT&T experience for many years notes that the build up seems more subdued this year. Could the economy be affecting this premier event. One notable absence is the promotional cars. Usually there are fleets of Buicks or Chryslers or whatever the sponsor cruising around. I guess the car companies have cutback.

The AT&T is coming…

Posted by Christine Monteith On February - 3 - 2009

Just a week away ’til the tee-off for big event formerly known as “The Crosby”. For those of you who know that Bing was known around here for more than his singing career.

Blossom Cove, Pebble Beach

Blossom Cove, Pebble Beach

Had the chance to see a classic Pebble Beach estate today, Blossom Cove listed for a mere $31million. The house is an original Craftsman with claw foot bath tubs and will probably be scraped by the new owner.
Stillwater Cove

Stillwater Cove

The house may be classic but the views are timeless…panoramic from The Lodge at Pebble Beach all the way to Pt. Lobos. There’s an old wood deck down at the water’s edge. You can see all the hospitality tents and viewing stands at the 18th hole.

Never know who will walk through the door

Our cute and historically designated office on 17th Street attracts the most interesting “walk-ins.”

The Jones Group

The Jones Group

Yesterday, Bernt Wahl ventured up our front porch stairs to ask about neighborhood names. I wasn’t quite sure what he was asking until he explained that he has developed G.I.S search software to define neighborhoods and provide demographic information. As Former CEO of DataHunt.com to provide information solutions to business. Now has Factle Maps

We had a great conversation about neighborhood names in Pacific Grove, a little history, a little culture. Bernt was speaking at the SCGIS 2008 Conference at the Asilomar Conference Center .

I live just a few blocks from the Asilomar Conference Center, I walk through the grounds on the way to the beach. They host many conferences, my assigned voting place, and also the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce Annual Fashion Show. No words can quite describe the experience of the Fashion show (I’ve model several times), it is better experienced first hand.

The Concours is coming, the Concours is coming!

Posted by Christine Monteith On August - 15 - 2008

We are inundated with cars of ages and makes. The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has been ramping up around The Lodge and the Equestrian Center for 2 weeks. The multiple “horse power” vehicles have squeezed out the single “horse power” people from our rings at the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center. We are relegated to 2 small rings in the back.

The Gooding Auction tents span a couple of acres, the Blackhawk tent and display area occupies all of the Peter Hay Golf course. The Concours cars, Ferrari being the featured marque this year, will be lined up on the 18th fairway of the Pebble Beach golf course. It is a breath-taking sight.
